Davidson County airport seeks lift via marketing

The new managers of the Davidson County Airport are investing thousands of dollars in a marketing plan aimed at transforming the quiet rural facility into an international arrival destination for a variety of aircraft.

Plans by Fly High Lexington — a private company contracted by the county to run the airport — are part of a larger blueprint to improve the facility and address a decline in activity experienced during the recession. The 75-acre airport is located on I-85 just south of Lexington and primarily caters to general aviation customers.

Innagural Barbecue Cookoff Receives Sanctioning

(Lexington, NC)  Uptown Lexington, Inc. will host the area’s first BBQ Capital Cook-off, which was sanctioned by Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS)   just last week.   The event will be held April 22-23, 2011 in uptown Lexington.

“It is a huge endorsement for Uptown Lexington, Inc. to receive this ‘seal of approval’ from KCBS,” said Chad Hodges, chair of the BBQ Capital Cook-off.  “KCBS sanctioning brings integrity, experience, a base of cookers and judges, and a support system of other organizers. So this provides the platform to make sure we have a respected and successful event right from the start. ”

Lexington, NC (December 15, 2010) – Davidson County Airport in Lexington, North Carolina is under the direction of a new fixed base operator. Karel Van Der Linden replaced former FBO operator Everette Tate after buying out Tate and Carolina Aero Services, LLC. Van Der Linden will operate under the name Fly High Lexington, LLC.

Van Der Linden brings over 25 years of experience in financial and operational management to the Davidson County Airport. Previously, Van Der Linden served as vice president, corporate controller and officer to Mercury Air Centers, Inc. He was also vice president and interim manager for Air Aruba, N.V. The native of Aruba moved to the United States in 1998.

Fly High Lexington launched a new website www.FlyHighLexington.com where they plan to attract local and transient jet and general aviation customers. Davidson County Airport is located in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina and is directly adjacent to Interstate 85, Highway 52 and Business 85.

As part of its goal to attract more transient business the FBO has developed a special Fly In package using the area’s wineries as the main attraction. Carolina Wine Country Tours by Prestige Limo include lunch at Childress Vineyards and a selection of 4 additional wineries in Davidson County and the region. AirCare 1 now stationed at county airport

AirCare 1, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s helicopter, is now operating from the Davidson County Airport.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday hosted by the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce at the county airport marked the occasion. WFUBMC President Donnie Lambeth, Lexington City Mayor John Walser and Davidson County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dr. Max Walser commended the arrangement made between the county and the hospital that led to the local stationing of the helicopter.

County OKs Air Care chopper space

The Davidson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a lease agreement that will put a Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Air Care helicopter at the Davidson County Airport.

The board will enter into a five-year agreement with Colorado-based Air Methods Corp., who will contract a helicopter to be used by WFUBMC starting Nov. 1.

New operator has big plans for county airport

Karel Van Der Linden, Davidson County Airport’s newest operator, welcomed city and county officials Thursday to an open house at the Davidson County Airport.

The event, Business After Hours, sponsored by both the Lexington and Thomasville chambers of commerce, provided Van Der Linden and his wife, Mari-Elena Baldwin, a chance to meet with those officials and discuss future plans for the airport.
