Ty Dillon passed Kyle Busch with 26 laps remaining then led Brad Keselowski by more than five seconds at the finish line to win Thursday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway. It is Dillon’s first win of the season at a track where older brother Austin swept both Nationwide races last season. “To beat Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski is pretty special,” Ty Dillon said. Busch led for 42 laps and looked to be the man to beat until his Toyota became loose after making adjustments during his last pit stop. “I was loose before the two tire stop, then we came in and tried to tighten it up and make it better, but still loose,” Kyle Busch said. “When we tested here, it was like clockwork at 9:15, the track goes loose.  I don’t know.  I can’t believe we messed up like that. “ James Buescher finished fourth and pole sitter Ryan Blaney fifth. Dillon moves to third in the 2013 Truck Series point standings behind Matt Crafton and Jeb Burton with the next race scheduled for July 13th at Iowa Speedway.

Brinkley inducted into Davidson County Hall of Fame

Fly High Lexington tenant, and local racing legend, Ralph Brinkley was inducted into the Davidson Co. Hall of Fame! From The Dispatch:    http://www.the-dispatch.com/article/20121020/NEWS/121029994/1003?Title=Brinkley-heads-sports-hall-inductees
Winning at Bowman-Gray Stadium requires a steady presence, and drivers can’t let their emotions get the best of them.
Ralph Brinkley was overcome with emotion Saturday night. Brinkley, one of the famed NASCAR track’s most accomplished drivers, fought back tears from start to finish Saturday as he was inducted into the Davidson County Sports Hall of Fame. He headlined a class that included North Davidson softball coach Mike Lambros, former Thomasville football standout Bruce Mills, former Pilot High School basketball phenom Peggy Sink Black, former West Davidson basketball star Mandy Causey McKinney, and the posthumous induction of Lexington basketball great Carlos Terry. For more than three decades, Brinkley was a fixture on the track in the featured modified division at Bowman-Gray. He picked up 64 career wins, a record that held until Tim Brown broke it this season. He still holds numerous records, and was voted the stadium’s most popular driver 11 times. Saturday night, Brinkley accepted the award, but made one thing very clear. “I didn’t win those races, we won all those races,” he said, pointing at members of his pit crew and family in attendance. “Our wives put up with us working late at night.” He actually overcame long odds just to get behind the wheel of a race car. “I lost an eye when I was nine,” he said. “Who would believe you could get in a sports Hall of Fame with one eye?”    Brinkley used his skills around an engine to escape working in hay and tobacco fields, and it turned into a passion. He said he began racing bicycles as a young child, and relished the opportunity to race at the track.

Big Toy Day

A big thank you goes out to all the visitors, vendors, and staff that made this year’s Big Toy Day and Fly-In a success! from: http://lexington-davidson.communitiesinschools.org/?p=851

Big Toy Day is a success!

Nearly 1,000 kids and their families visited the Davidson County Airport on Aug. 25 to take part in Big Toy Day.
Once again, Communities In Schools of Lexington/Davidson County can proudly say that Big Toy Day was both hugely fun and hugely successful! We saw close to 1,000 kids and their families out at the Davidson County Airport visiting the owners of more than 40 “big toys.” The Young Eagles gave over 50 free airplane rides and we sold too many hot dogs and snow cones to count! Several of our most popular activities were free thanks to the generosity of volunteerswho painted faces, applied temporary tattoos, and led yard games. We would like to thankRyan Short Entertainment for providing the bounce house! A very special thank-you goes to the CIS Board of Directors for the time and energy they spent making Big Toy Day the success that it was. CIS congratulates the winners of our Building and Bike raffles: Bob White won an 8×12 storage building provided by Outback Builders. Tanner B. won the boys’ bicycle. Sabrina Briggs won the girls’ bicycle. For more photos of all the fun we had this year at Big Toy Day, visit us on Facebook!
